So this is where all the fun begins. We waited until the sun hid behind the mountains to get some astrological photography. This is something we don’t really get to do in Louisiville Kentucky so we take in every opportunity. As we revisited the scorpion, we ran into a fellow photographer, Stan. He made the experience more fun because we were all experimenting with different light painting, angles, telling stories and helping each other out. He also had a map that we all played “where’s waldo” with some of the artwork. So here is a photograph of The scorpion, with the Scorpius constellation behind it. This has been a long awaited photo for me so Im happy to finally get to share this fun photo. PSPHOTO; The other statue I wanted to see was the Wild Horses. I thought they made a very powerful feeling with the milky way behind the silhouette of the horses raring up.
Borrego Springs during Daylight
So something to do when you visit the southern area of California is to see the Galleta Meadows sculptures created by Ricardo Breceda. There are estimated 130 creatures randomly placed in the area. They range from large, small, visible and hard to find. I was able to see all of my favorite and get some day desert shots of the metal art. Here is my favored ( since my zodiac is Scorpio ) The scorpion. He was facing a grasshopper but I just wanted the one statue.
PSPHOTO; Here was another one that was really awesome to see, the Dragon. He is weaving in and out of the ground under the road. It was fun to go out in the sand with these things!
To Anza Borrego
I wanted to get the desert feeling with sand dunes. We never really traveled to an area for that but this area can give the exact feeling. It was somewhere in the 100° temperature even though the sun was near setting time. The air was dry and warm to breathe in and you can’t avoid the sand.
Joshua Tree National Forest
So here are the actual Joshua Trees. This one here is the largest they have in this area. It isn’t often you get to see a tree that looks like an offspring of a palm tree and an octopus. It is just nice to have some shade from the sun.
Joshua Tree National Forest
So making our way from the south of the park to the top we find many interesting plants to photograph.
Here is one, the Fouquieria splendens / Ocotillo (which is not an actual cactus believe it or not). They usually will have red blooms but we caught them out of season.
PSPHOTO; Everything is thorny! Anything you see in the desert seems to have some kind of natural protection. Defintely watch your step for pokey things or critters such as scorpions or tarantulas when out this way. I think the only thing I saw that wasn’t super dangerous/ spiky was a lizard.
